World Earth Day – 22 April

World Earth Day which is celebrated annually on 22 April, is a global call to action to tackle the climate crisis. This year’s theme is Invest In Our Planet, asking everyone to work in partnership in the fight to save the planet. This calls on all businesses, governments and people to be accounted for, and held accountable in action to invest in our planet in order to preserve and protect our health, our families, and our livelihoods.

There is more information on World Earth Day, and how you can get involved on the World Earth Day website.

NCL CCG and Sustainability

Green Staff Network

The Green Staff Network was established in January 2022 by a small group of CCG staff who feel really passionate about the climate emergency. The network operates on the basis that nobody is too small to make a difference and we can all do our bit.

Staff can use the WWF’s environmental footprint calculator to measure their environmental footprints and find out how we can each make a difference.

If any members of staff have ideas to contribute or are interested in joining the network they can contact Zoe Garbett, zoe.garbett@nhs.net.

NCL Green Plan

As the Integrated Care System in North Central London continues to evolve, we have developed a ‘Green Plan’ with our partners to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients and local communities, through sustainable healthcare.  This work is critical to address our local health inequalities.

We have a responsibility to our local communities to do what we can to support people to Start Well, Live Well and Age Well. This includes prioritising actions such as minimising the impact of our contribution to air pollution for the environment and our health.

In this short video Dr. Jo Sauvage, Chief Medical Officer for North Central London, who is also a GP in Islington and Clinical Lead for the Sustainability Network in London, explains the work of the emerging ICS in this area and how we can all play our role.

More information on the NCL Green Plan and how the CCG will meet the national net-zero target, can be found here.
