Job Evaluation and Job Description Guidance


The CCG follows the NHS Job Evaluation scheme to determine the pay band for all posts on Agenda for Change (AfC) Terms and Conditions. The process of determining the correct payband band is carried out in partnership between management (mainly HR ) and staff side colleagues, who are trained in Job Matching/Evaluation.

All new job descriptions and existing job descriptions which have been amended in a way that might affect their grading should be submitted to your HR Business Partner for grading. There is no need to seek a re-evaluation if no changes have been made to an existing Job Description. Where Job Evaluation is required, the Job Description will be submitted to a Job Evaluation panel which is made up of Management and Staff side. The flow chart (in the downloads) describes the Job Evaluation process managers should be aware of.

Details of when panels are scheduled are listed below (and are available in the downloads); however these are subject to change.

Please note, before a post can be submitted for WAP approval, the recruiting manager must have received the outcome of a job evaluation panel (where applicable).

Job Description guidance and templates

The CCG’s HR team have collaborated with staff side colleagues and the Engaging our People Forum to develop some guidance for recruiting managers in writing effective Job Descriptions and Person Specifications and have created a Job Description/Person Specification template. These documents are available in the downloads section.
